Etorphine‐Related Ferrocenyl‐Substituted Morphinan Alkaloids

The two diastereoisomeric ferrocenyl‐substituted orvinols 2 and 3 were prepared. The modified alkaloids are still able to interact with opioid receptors (see Table). The ferrocene moiety allows highly selective and sensitive electrochemical detection. The X‐ray crystal structure of the major isomer 2 was determined. The combination of a metallocene and a morphinan alkaloid holds promise for useful antitumor activity.     

A fluctuation theorem for moderately interacting diffusion processes

Summary We study the asymptotic behaviour of the fluctuations of the empirical processes of the second example of moderately interacting diffusion processes of [3] and show that in the limit, as the number of different processes tends to infinity, these fluctuations behave gaussian.This work has been supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft     

Heat conductivity of three periodic Hard Disks via nonequilibrium molecular dynamics

We use a driving field, of the type first suggested by Evans, to generate a steady heat current in the simplest possible system, a two-dimensional periodic fluid of three hard disks. Hard-disk motion equations can be conveniently derived from repulsive constant-force or linear-force potentials by considering the infinitely repulsive limit of these potentials. We show that the isoenergetic and isokinetic forms of the nonequilibrium equations of motion generate steady-state heat conductivities differing by terms of order 1/N, whereN is the number of particles. The resulting conductivities appear to vary as the logarithm of the driving field strength. Even at low fields, the three-body periodic-system results lie well below Enskog's infinite-system prediction.

Chiral title compounds have been resolved by medium pressure liquid chromatography (MPLC) on triacetylcellulose in ethanol. Whereas a quantitative separation was achieved for16 and20, a recycling technique had to be applied to1,4,6,10 and15 leading to a 100% e.e. for1,6 and15 and to ca. 60% e.e. for4 and10.An unambiguous assignment of the chirality (+)-(R) _a -(S) _m for tricarbonylchromium-6,6-dimethyl-diphenicacid dimethylester (4) was deduced both from the photochemical decomplexation to (-)-5 with the known chirality (R) _a (whose e.e. was determined by MPLC on triacetylcellulose) and by comparison of the¹H-n.m.r. spectra of4 and5 thereby proving the structure 4 for the former.Other chiralities both for mono and bis(tricarbonylchromium)biphenyl complexes were established by chemical correlations and comparison of the CD spectra with those of key compounds.

Field-portable, high-speed GC/TOFMS

This work is focused on developing a fast gas chromatograph, time-of-flight mass spectrometer (GC/TOFMS) for man-portable field use. The goal is to achieve a total system solution for meeting performance, size, weight, power, cost, and ruggedness requirements for a laboratory in the field. The core technology will also be adaptable to specific applications including real-time point detection for hazardous chemical releases (e.g., chemical weapons), for biological agent signature identification, and for mobile monitoring platforms (e.g., air, ship, truck). Previously we presented results of a feasibility demonstration for a 30-lb field-portable TOFMS system. In this work we present recent progress in integrating a low-power, high-speed GC and show the capability for accurately recording fast GC transients for targeted compound detection using a quadrupole ion trap, time-of-flight instrument (QitTof).     

Untersuchungen über Enzymaktivitäten der Leberzelle bei Vitamin-E-Mangel

The enzymatic elongation of acyl-CoA esters by malonyl-CoA, respectively de novo synthesis of fatty acids from malonyl-CoA by liver microsomes and non particulate fraction of α-tocopherol deficient rats is diminished versus controls. However, liver microsomes of vitamin E deficient rats synthesize more eicosatetraenic acid from γ-linolenic acid and more γ-linolenic acid from linolic acid than do those of tocopherol supplemented animals. It has often been shown that the liver phosphatides of tocopherol deficient rats contain more arachidonic acid than those of controls, a fact which can be explained now by increased activity of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid. Certain polyenic fatty acids are more rapidly synthesized in the absence of naturally occuring antioxidants. Some enzymes of the respiratory chain have also been examined. No vitamin E deficiency effect has been found on enzymes such as gluconate-6-P-dehydrogenase, isocitrate-dehydrogenase, malate-dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase contained in the non particulate fraction. Sonicated mitochondria of tocopherol deficient rats show a greater activity towards cytochrome, oxydase and β-hydroxy-acetyl-CoA-dehydrogenase than controls, possibly due to ultrastractural alteration of this particle.
